| Totalsports Women’s Race attracts Africa’s elite | <span><p>Some of Africa's elite women's field runners will lead a 12 000-strong 'sea of pink' in the streets of the CBD for the Totalsports Women's Race this Friday, 9 August 2024.</p><p>SA 10km record holder Glenrose Xaba, 2023 SPAR Grand Prix series champion Tadu Nare (Ethiopia), Ethiopia's Selam Gebre, Diniya Abaraya and Ebste Btaw along with Kenya's Marion Chepkoech and Christine Njoki will lead the line in the elite category.<br></p>

<img src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Images%202/Totalsports%207824%201.jpg" class="responsive" alt="" style="width:887px;" /> </figure></span><span><p>Held annually to commemorate Women's Day and in support of breast cancer awareness, the Totalsports Women's Race will take the runners on a 10km and 5km race through some of the Mother City's iconic landmarks.</p><p>Clad in their pink t-shirts, the thousands of participants will proudly run in support of the PinkDrive's campaign, which runs education programmes about breast cancer as well as improving the services available to women across South Africa.</p><p>Throughout event day, PinkDrive will offer free clinical breast examinations and highlight the importance of self-breast examinations.<br></p>

The City of Cape Town's sponsorship of the event over several years has formed part of our commitment to ensuring we contribute to providing support for women in many facets of life, whether participating in sports or in terms of their overall health. We wish all the runners a successful race in the Mother City,' said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith. </p><p> </p><p><strong>Road Closures and Parking</strong></p><p> </p><p>The 10km race starts at 08:00 with the 5km event kicking off at 08:10 from Darling Street in front of City Hall. </p><p> </p><p>The race will take runners on a route that will cut through District Six, Gardens and the CBD before finishing on the Grand Parade. <br></p>
