An additional 11 Breaking New Ground (BNG) homes were handed over by Human Settlements Mayoral Committee Member, Councillor Carl Pophaim.<br></p> | <div>‘I am so happy to be celebrating in Gugulethu today even amid this horrendous storm at our Erf 8448 site with the new homeowners. The City recently completely took over the project which will mean consistent progress to completion and more beneficiaries moving into their new homes. The project has experienced a number of complexities including contractor challenges, Covid-19-related delays, extortion attempts, the unlawful occupation of partially completed units at the Mau Mau site in Nyanga and vandalism to completed works. </div><div><br></div><div>‘The Gugulethu Infill housing project will deliver 1 004 homes to qualifying beneficiaries and their families. This is made up of 570 units at the Gugulethu site and 434 at Mau Mau. Our teams are absolutely committed to completing the Gugulethu Infill housing project for the beneficiaries and their families as soon as possible. Thank you to all stakeholders including our communities, City teams and project steering committees for their hard work in moving the rightful beneficiaries into their new homes. This project is up and running. We have stood strong and mitigated against extortion and other challenges and are now delivering to beneficiaries,’ said Councillor Pophaim.<br></div><div><br></div><div><span>
