Alderman James Vos: Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth

The directorate focusses on the key sectors within Cape Town to stimulate economic growth in areas such as business development, tourism, fleet and facility management, strategic assets and property management.<br></p></div>

<h2 class="sectHeading">Vision statement</h2> <span> <figure class="figure-credits right"> <img class="responsive" alt="placeholder" src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Inline%20Images/vos.jpg" /> <figcaption> <p> <b>Alderman James Vos</b><br>Economic Growth</p> </figcaption> </figure></span> <p> We aim to give full effect to the benefits of the Integrated Development Plan with emphasis on the City's priorities, including:</p><ul><li>building integrated communities<br></li><li>leveraging technology for progress; </li><li>positioning Cape Town as a forward-looking, globally competitive business and tourism location;<br></li><li>promoting economic inclusion; and<br></li><li>promoting and facilitating safe communities.<br></li></ul><p>This portfolio has the potential to ensure that Cape Town continues to be the go-to city on the African continent and globally for business, trade and tourism. We have a diverse economy that is creating jobs and keeping unemployment low. Our main objective is to continue building on this success by working with industries and communities to invest in projects and programmes that will drive demand and make business sense.</p><p>The alignment of the previous Enterprise and Investment portfolio with the Asset Management portfolio allows for service integration and strategic alignment. Within the Economic Growth Directorate, our focus areas are:</p><ul><li>Property Management: ensuring compliance with the Municipal Asset Transfer Regulations (MATR), while ensuring that the City is open for business in a consistent, transparent and efficient manner.</li><li>Facilities Management: responsible for planning and executing the space management and accommodation needs of the administration and improving universal access to corporate facilities.</li><li>Fleet Management: charged with the development and implementation of a Fleet Management Information System (FMIS) to ensure that the City’s fleet is more efficiently and effectively managed.</li><li>Growth and Investment via the Invest Cape Town initiative, designed to assist with growing the economy and position of Cape Town as a global, forward-looking, competitive business city.</li><li>Strategic Assets: maximising the use of these will provide the City with a strategic competitive advantage and position Cape Town on a global platform.</li></ul><h2 class="sectHeading">Biography</h2><p> </p><div>James Vos is the newly appointed Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth in the City of Cape Town. His portfolio comprises a combination of the Tourism, Enterprise and Investment Department with those of the City’s extensive Asset Management Departments which allows for important synergies and levers in driving economic growth in Cape Town.<br></div><div> <br> </div><div>He previously served as member of parliament in the National Assembly as the shadow minister of tourism.
