Resolution detail
The Councillors requested to be informed as well as Ward committee members when a fire incident of significant magnitude occurs in their respective wards.
Mr Mervyn Carolissen said that he is intending to conduct training for our Subcouncil staff in order to sift Fire & Rescue incidents related to Subcouncil 11 only.
He said his Department want to assist the Neighbourhood Watch volunteers, with some basic training in order for them to help the community, in an attempt to create safer environments and protection to the Firefighters when they respond to incidents
• DRM have a criteria of who qualifies for assistance from NGO’s. Maybe Subcouncil can set-up a meeting with DRM.
For all informal dwelling fires he said that Fire and Rescue Department do inform DRM.
• With respect to Incident Reports for Dwelling fires, Fire and Rescue Services will record the details of the owners and occupiers on the Incident Reports, the official in charge, prepares this Incident Report, within a day or two. The owners can then collect it from the relevant Fire Station. The affected beneficiaries / Community members will need to prove that they are the owner or occupier by an acceptable manner.
• The “Access to information” policy of CoCT is the document needed to be completed for persons requesting Incident reports from the Fire Service Department.
Subcouncil agreed to send the official the list of contact details of all our Ward Committee members in the various wards as well the Ward Councillors.
The Subcouncil members commended the department for the excellent work they are doing and NOTED the information
