Resolution detail

Helen Jordaan was present for this item and she displayed a visual presentation. Helen opened the meeting by introducing the bathing boxes and informing the Subcouncil on how many bathing boxes there are and where they are situated. She elaborated on the following points: •The process underway with regards to the removal /upgrading of Muizenberg Boxes. •The outcomes from engagement sessions held with relevant key stakeholders in terms of retaining the bathing boxes. •Daily challenges experienced by staff. •Challenges with retaining all bathing boxes. Conclusively Helen informed the Subcouncil that the following was recommended by Sports and Recreation together, with the Coastal Management department: •An ad-hoc solution is not a viable option •That an appropriate proportion of bathing boxes be retained and maintained on Muizenberg Main Beach, and all 8 at Surfer’s Corner •Propose the removal of the 17 bathing boxes nearest the Zandvlei River mouth •Components of these boxes be used to maintain the remaining boxes •Request to provide a more in-depth report to Subcouncil in 2018 following investigations into the use and opportunities to be created by the remaining 21 bathing boxes on Muizenberg Main Beach A copy of the presentation has been added to SERGE. Cllr Kuhl thanked the departments (Sports and Recreation and Environmental Coastal Management) for their input in this project and their commitment to a further detailed investigation on the Muizenberg bathing boxes. RESOLVED that, 1.That the presentation be NOTED. 2.That a progress report be submitted to Subcouncil in March 2018.
