Resolution detail

Ms Bronwen Allison represented the department. Concerns & issues raised: •Schools in Subcouncil 16 area are not included in the Public Education & Awareness program •What is being done during the Public Education & Awareness program? •What happens to abandoned calls? In response, Ms Bronwen Allison stated that a request may be forwarded to their office and a meeting be set up to discuss what public awareness events / activities can be rolled-out. The program is being done in conjunction with other line departments. e.g. Safety& Security, Traffic and Fire departments: how it works and what is expected of them. The abandoned calls rate goes hand in hand with how quickly we are able to hand calls over to external service providers e.g. SAPS and EMS. Currently, they are our main reason for the high abandoned calls rate, as they experience staff shortages. It can take between 15 to 20 minutes to get through to them. We do have sufficient staff on duty to deal with the incoming calls, but we cannot compensate for other services that do not have sufficient staffing. We are however busy with the integration between EPIC and the EMS system and once that is completed, we will be able to transfer calls to them electronically. This should cut our abandoned calls rate drastically. UNANIMOUSLY RESOLVED that: a)The quarterly report of the Public Emergency Communication Centre for the period April to June 2017 be noted. b)Ward councillors forward a list of areas to the Subcouncil manager for inclusion in the Public Education & Awareness program.
