Update on water supply disruption in parts of Simon’s Town, Glencairn and Glencairn Heights<p></p><p>The City has deployed teams to effectively minimise the areas impacted by the water supply disruption resulting from the pipe burst and to  repair the damaged pipe in Simon’s Town in the shortest timeframe possible as well as clearing the resulting mudslide on the main road. The section of the road below the damaged pipeline remains  closed temporarily to allow the extensive civil work required to stabilise the sloped embankment before the new pipe sections can be installed. The incoming lanes to Simon’s Town have been opened and repurposed for two-way traffic, while the outgoing lanes are being used for the mechanical plant during the repairs.</p><p>The Water and Sanitation team has shut off the supply to parts of Simon’s Town, but was able to reroute water supply to the Glencairn and Glencairn Heights areas on Saturday evening.</p><div>The pipe repairs will unfortunately only commence when the civil works to fill and support the soil structure below the damaged pipe have been completed.<br></div><div><br></div><div>The pipe is located on the foot of the mountainside and the soil surrounding it and below towards the road has been washed away, causing the mudslide. This has resulted in complexities.</div><div><br></div><div>A water tanker is parked outside the Simon’s Town railway station to provide the affected part of Simon’s Town with water for domestic use where required.</div><div><br></div><div>The affected consumers are kindly requested to keep their taps closed while repairs are in progress to prevent water loss and/or damage when the water supply is restored. </div><div><br></div><div>The City sincerely apologises for the inconvenience, but it is imperative that it maintains its water supply infrastructure to benefit its consumers.</div><div><br></div><div>The Simon’s Town drop-off facility is closed this weekend.</div><div><br></div><div>Updates on this matter will be made available on the City Alerts Twitter page.</div><div>        </div><div><br><br></div><div><br><br></div><p><br></p>2022-05-01T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#a20edaf0-fd22-4506-82dc-157b6edbd5f7;L0|#0a20edaf0-fd22-4506-82dc-157b6edbd5f7|water supply services;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb10
