Residents are also advised to take note of public holiday operating times for our drop-off facilities.

|
The City of Cape Town's Urban Waste Management Directorate wishes to advise residents that refuse collection services are scheduled to take place as normal over the following upcoming public holidays:

Good Friday: 29 March 2024

Easter Monday: 1 April 2024

As normal, residents are requested to ensure that their bins are placed outside for collection by 06:00 on the scheduled refuse collection day. Residents are encouraged not to wait for the refuse collection vehicle to enter their street before taking the bin to the pavement. The collection teams might arrive much earlier than usual as there is likely to be reduced traffic congestion on the roads on these days.

Residents should please note that there is a possible risk of refuse collection delays due to various factors. If your refuse is not collected on the scheduled day, please do not leave it outside overnight. Take it out again each day until it has been collected.

'The City also reminds residents to bin-it smart, and play your part during the holiday period. Please ensure packaging is recycled where possible. You can take this to a drop-off site if you are not in an area that benefits from the City's Think Twice recycling collection service.

'This could also be a good weekend for your family to start composting your organic waste. This helps reduce carbon emissions that are generated when food scraps break down in the landfill, and slows the rate of climate change,' said Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management, Alderman Grant Twigg.

Residents can find a guide on how to get started with composting here.

Drop-off facilities

Please also note that drop-off facilities will be closed on Good Friday, and will operate according to public holiday hours on Easter Monday.
