Transport Month kicks off with new PTI in Makhaza

'October is Transport Month, and during this month we showcase our transport successes. This year's programme highlights transport infrastructure across Cape Town. I am excited that Makhaza was our first stop. This facility will give much needed relief to almost 1 000 commuters who, up until now, had to endure harsh weather conditions while waiting for a minibus-taxi to take them to their destinations. With the completion of this facility, the community can now look forward to a dignified and safe space for their commuting needs,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The facility boasts:

a building with ablutions, and refuse storage

a universally accessible facility with roofs and seating under cover

green initiatives like rainwater harvesting, solar panels and LED lights

The PTI also includes landscaping elements, such as 18 trees.

'I am appealing to the Makhaza community to please take ownership of this facility, and to ensure that it is kept clean at all times and used for its intended purpose. A taxi facility is a hive of activity where numerous small businesses thrive and friendships are formed. You now have a landmark, a permanent structure where you can express yourselves. I believe the operators will start operating from this facility as soon as the last snags have been resolved, and I want to wish you all well,' said Councillor Quintas.

The Project Steering Committee's support assisted in ensuring the successful completion of this project.

'Establishing good relationships and ongoing and consistent communication with those affected are critical elements of a successful project. Without the assistance and support of this committee, we would not have been able to complete this work. This is how we make progress possible. Together.

'Last but most definitely not least, I want to thank the construction implementation team for articulating our vision and completing the work on time,' said Councillor Quintas.

Help us protect this infrastructure. Makhaza isezandleni zenu ngoku. Makhaza, it is now in your hands.

End

2022-10-02T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#7cc7a47a-7915-4274-a19e-e977c5a945e0;L0|#07cc7a47a-7915-4274-a19e-e977c5a945e0|traffic;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#6ab3318d-7a7e-4bf3-bd4b-12d096c2d88f;L0|#06ab3318d-7a7e-4bf3-bd4b-12d096c2d88f|Makhaza10
