Talent show takes centre stage on Youth DayTalent show takes centre stage on Youth Day<img alt="" src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/PublishingImages/Former%20Mayors%20Header.jpg" style="BORDER:0px solid;" /><p>​<strong><em><span style="font-size:11pt;font-family:"century gothic", sans-serif;">The City’s</span></em></strong><em><span style="font-size:11pt;font-family:"century gothic", sans-serif;"> <strong>Recreation and Parks Department hosted numerous events around the metropole in celebration of Youth on 16 June – chief among the list was a talent show at the Eerste River Multipurpose Centre, where participants</strong><strong> showcased their talents in poetry, singing,<span style="color:#1f497d;"> </span>dancing and drama. Families came out in their numbers to support the participants. </strong></span></em></p><p><br></p><p>​Targeted at vulnerable youth living in Eerste River, the Youth Day Talent Show is a special event to attract youth to the City's recreation facilities and participate in the programmes on offer. Hosting this event reinforced the importance of youth engagement in the community, providing a safe and fun environment to foster their talents and build relationships with one another and the community.<br></p><span><p></p> <figure class="subtopic-fullsize-img"> <img src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Images%202/Youth%20day%20Eerste%20River.jpg" class="responsive" alt="" style="width:751px;" /> </figure>​</span>'Young people are capable of great things, as demonstrated by this event. We recognise the importance of investing in our youth, and providing them with the support and guidance they need to reach their full potential. We also acknowledge the unique challenges they face, and strive to create a better future for them. Let's celebrate our youth this month and support them in their dreams and aspirations,' said Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Patricia Van der Ross.<div><br><p> A lot of hard work, time, energy and planning went into organising the talent show, which included catering, prizes, security, sound, practice sessions, and teaching life skills.</p><p> The Recreation and Parks Department worked closely with numerous partners, including the Jacomous Foundation, Love Heals, the Provincial Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Eerste River Neighbourhood Watch, City Health and the Eerste River Community Policing Forum.</p><p> 'Youth are our future generation and it's important that we invest in them. Emphasis needs to be put on the talent of our youth and creating opportunities for them to generate an income.
