Stop-and-go to accommodate demolition works in CliftonStop-and-go to accommodate demolition works in Clifton
<span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:"century gothic", sans-serif;">On Monday, 3 October 2022, the City’s Urban Mobility Directorate will commence with the demolition and removal of the disused steel pipe and concrete encasement on a City-owned erf in Victoria Road in Clifton. The works are expected to be completed by 14 October 2022, pending unforeseen delays and inclement weather.

The work will take place between 08:00 and 17:00 on weekdays and on Saturdays.

A section of approximately 50m of the southbound lane from 11 to 13 Victoria Road will be closed to traffic during this time.

The purpose of the work is to safely demolish and remove the disused steel pipe and concrete encasement which has become a safety hazard due to erosion of the surrounding weathered granite material.

The work also includes the relocation of existing services – two 110mm diameter uPVC pipes, one carrying sewerage and one carrying stormwater from the properties above, as well as a single 25mm water supply pipe.

No full road closures are anticipated and traffic will be accommodated by means of a contraflow system. Daytime lane closures will be in place whereby both the north and southbound traffic will be accommodated on the northbound lane.

Traffic accommodation will be implemented and managed by the appointed contractor.

The existing steel pipe that requires demolition runs vertically from the road level and up a steep embankment and is encased in concrete.

'The safety of our residents is key. Although no physical work will be performed on the actual road surface, we will have a lane closure with a stop-and-go system in place to ensure the safety of all road users along this narrow curved road,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

'I appeal to residents to please avoid the area during the demolition period to avoid unnecessary disappointment and delays,' said Councillor Quintas.

End

2022-09-29T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#d81388b5-b08f-489f-934c-4938ca5f2236;L0|#0d81388b5-b08f-489f-934c-4938ca5f2236|Clifton;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#3e84e2ed-3e2d-44ae-a5b6-af54ef207755;L0|#03e84e2ed-3e2d-44ae-a5b6-af54ef207755|maintenance;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb10
