commence with the demolition and removal of the disused steel pipe and concrete
encasement on a City-owned erf in Victoria Road in Clifton. The works are
expected to be completed by 14 October 2022, pending unforeseen delays and
inclement weather. </span></em></strong><br></p> | <p>The work will take place between 08:00 and 17:00 on weekdays and on Saturdays.</p><p>A section of approximately 50m of the southbound lane from 11 to 13 Victoria Road will be closed to traffic during this time.</p><p>The purpose of the work is to safely demolish and remove the disused steel pipe and concrete encasement which has become a safety hazard due to erosion of the surrounding weathered granite material.</p><p>The work also includes the relocation of existing services – two 110mm diameter uPVC pipes, one carrying sewerage and one carrying stormwater from the properties above, as well as a single 25mm water supply pipe.</p><p>No full road closures are anticipated and traffic will be accommodated by means of a contraflow system. Daytime lane closures will be in place whereby both the north and southbound traffic will be accommodated on the northbound lane. </p><p>Traffic accommodation will be implemented and managed by the appointed contractor.</p><p style="text-align:left;">The existing steel pipe that requires demolition runs vertically from the road level and up a steep embankment and is encased in concrete. </p><p style="text-align:left;">'The safety of our residents is key.
