Development Framework (MSDF), and the Spatial Development Frameworks (DSDFs)
and Environmental Management Frameworks (EMFs) for the City’s eight planning
districts at its meeting on Thursday, 26 January 2023. These documents are now
available on the City’s website. </span></em></strong><br></p> | <p></p><p>The DSDFs and EMFs guide spatial development and land use management on a district level; similarly, the MSDF determines the overall spatial vision for the Cape Town metropole.</p><p> </p><p>The public can access these documents online, on the City's website as follows: </p><ul><li>for the MSDF, at: <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/work%20and%20business/planning-portal/regulations-and-legislations/cape-town-spatial-development-framework" target="_blank">Municipal Spatial Development Framework review</a> or <a href="http://www.capetown.gov.za/MSDF" target="_blank">www.capetown.gov.za/MSDF</a> </li><li>For the district plans, at: <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/Work%20and%20business/Planning-portal/Spatial-Plans-and-Frameworks/District-plans" target="_blank">District plans</a> or <a href="http://www.capetown.gov.za/DSDF" target="_blank">www.capetown.gov.za/DSDF</a></li></ul><p> </p><p><strong>The revised DSDFs apply to the City's eight planning districts, namely:</strong></p><p>• Table Bay;</p><p>• Blaauwberg;</p><p>• Northern;</p><p>• Tygerberg;</p><p>• Helderberg;</p><p>• Khayelitsha, Mitchells Plain and Greater Blue Downs;</p><p>• Cape Flats; and</p><p>• Southern</p><p> </p><p>'The district plans are important planning documents as these also determine the strategic priorities, spatial elements and key projects specific to each district. These policy documents provide certainty to communities and developers; and guide and inform the City's decisions when we assess development, environmental and land use applications, and decide on spatial targeting of our investment and services upgrades,' said the City's Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Alderman Eddie Andrews.</p><p> </p><p>The MSDF guides and informs the City's long-term planning and development on a macro, or municipal-wide level.</p><p> </p><p>'The key objective is to establish a spatial form that will ensure that Cape Town becomes a city that responds to the contextual realities and scales our efforts to be more equitable, liveable, sustainable, resilient and efficient. We must pursue these policies in the midst of a growing population and a more unpredictable future with pandemics, climate change, pressure on engineering infrastructure services and electricity insecurity.
