Seli 1 wreck marked to improve safety at Table View coastline

The Seli 1 wreck just off the Table View coastline is within one of the most popular kitesurfing areas in Cape Town. At times, during low tide, parts of the wreck are only one metre below the water surface. This poses not only a potential risk to unaware kitesurfers, many of whom are our international visitors to Cape Town, but also to passing boats and other water users.

The City's Coastal Management Department was approached by the Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry to assist with marking the wreck with a buoy to improve safety.

'Working together with the generous help of Blue-Cape and Viking Safety Equipment officials from the City's Coastal Management Department deployed and secured a marker buoy to the shallowest area of the wreck as a safety warning to all recreational users and vessels. The installation happened last week Friday, 8 December.

'This is a great example of how the City, with the support and cooperation of civic minded stakeholders and organisations, are doing more in the best interest of our residents and visitors.
