Second masterclass completed | Second masterclass completed | | <img alt="" src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/PublishingImages/Arts-and-Culture-Header.jpg" style="BORDER:0px solid;" /> | <div>Twenty emerging visual artists from across the city participated in a one-day masterclass facilitated by the City of Cape Town’s Arts and Culture Branch.</div><div><br><br></div><p><br></p> | <div>The branch’s Emerging Artists Programme aims to assist under-resourced, inexperienced, and relatively unknown artists in Cape Town. </div><div><br></div><div><span><p><img src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Images%202/paint1.jpg" class="responsive" alt="" style="width:1650px;" /></p></span>‘Our Emerging Artists Programme gives many young artists a foot in the door of various creative sectors. Through the programme, we are able to offer accessible visual art capacity-building training, as well as exhibition opportunities,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Patricia van der Ross.</div><div><br></div><div>Many of the artists who participate in exhibitions lack formal training and often request advice on various aspects of their craft such as preparing a canvas, framing, and art installation. <br></div><div><br></div><div><span><p><img src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Images%202/paint2.jpg" class="responsive" alt="" style="width:666px;" /></p></span>‘We are therefore implementing a series of practical masterclasses to teach emerging artists methods and techniques to assist with these key aspects of their practice,’ said Councillor Van der Ross.</div><div><br></div><div>The second session of these masterclasses was held on Saturday, 10 February, during which the artists were introduced to different painting mediums and taught how to use them effectively.</div><div><br></div><div>Other topics on the day included colour theory, brush technique, mixing paint and other skills.</div><div><br></div><div>The first masterclass took place last year and focused on preparing a canvas, while the third takes place in March and will focus on installation.<br></div><div><br></div><div><span><p><img src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Images%202/paint3.jpg" class="responsive" alt="" style="width:949px;" /></p></span>‘Our emerging artists bring diversity to the industry. They represent a multitude of cultures, backgrounds and artistic approaches.
