Round-up of subcouncil activities<p> <strong>​City partners with Goodwood community during National Water Week<br><br></strong>National Water Week was held between 20 – 26 March 2017 to highlight the importance of this precious resource. The City, in partnership with GrandWest, Afriserv and Wastemart organised a clean-up of the Elsies River canal. Several schools from the area including learners from Goodwood College, Kalksteenfontein Primary and Boundary Primary participated in the initiative. Please ensure that you do all you can to conserve this precious resource. <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/Family%20and%20home/greener-living/water-wise-in-the-home/save-water-in-the-home">See our page on water-saving tips</a> for ideas on how to reduce your water consumption.</p></div></div></span> <p> <strong>Mitchells Plain community outreach initiatives</strong><br><br>A workshop on indigent grants was held at the ward office in Dagbreek Hall, Westridge, on 23 March 2017. Information and assistance with indigent grant applications was provided, and residents with municipal account arrears were also advised on how to seek relief.<br><br>Cllr Andrews of Subcouncil 12 led a visit to the Westridge Matrix Clinic on 23 March 2017 to raise awareness around the problem of drug and alcohol abuse. City Health staff were on hand to advise on the services that are available to the community.<br><br>Subcouncil 12 staff led by Cllr Eddie Andrews visited the Yvonne Parfitt Retirement Cottages in Westridge on 13 April 2017 as part of their Easter community outreach. The aim of the visit was to build relationships with the elderly. <br>A one-day leadership skills development course was held at the Lentegeur subcouncil office on 4 April 2017. Youths participating in the Decision Affects Destinies (DAD) outreach programme attended and received guidance on becoming future leaders in their community.<br><br>On 23 April 2017 a meeting in support of the Decision Affects Destinies (DAD) outreach programme was held at the Lentegeur subcouncil offices. Residents were given the opportunity to engage with City officials regarding key service delivery concerns. Afterwards, Cllr Ntsodo went on a tour of the area with local community leaders to visit locations where development was needed, and to view crime hotspots in need of remediation.<br><br>A similar engagement session was held at the Mfuleni Community Hall on 17 March 2017 hosted by Cllr Chantal Cerfontein of Subcouncil 22.</p><p> <strong>Crime prevention CCTV cameras installed at key intersections</strong><br><br>On 17 March 2017 Cllr Chantal Cerfontein led a site inspection of the recently installed CCTV cameras. The intersections in question were:</p><ul><li>Cnr Langverwacht and Link roads, Kuils River</li><li>Cnr Van Riebeeck and Stradford roads, Eerste River</li><li>Cnr London Way and Eersteriver Road, Malibu</li></ul><p> <strong>Draft Budget and IDP community meeting</strong><br><br>The City’s Draft Budget 2017/18 and Integrated Development Plan (IDP) were presented to residents at a community engagement session held at the Sidney Kuhn Civic Centre in Maccassar on 5 April 2017. Officials were on hand to answer questions and to assist with the public participation process.</p><p> <strong>Healthy living workshop for seniors</strong><br><br>A training workshop was held for seniors in Ward 22 at the Nobantu Centre in Mfuleni on 2 March 2017. The session aimed to inform participants about the importance of healthy eating and living.
