Residents given another chance to comment on plan for Bishop LavisThe Bishop Lavis Urban Node Upgrade forms part of the Mayoral Urban Regeneration Programme and aims to optimise the existing land use patterns so that the currently underutilised publically owned land and facilities may be put to productive use in the interests of the local community of Bishop Lavis.

During the previous open day which was held on 28 April 2016, three upgrade options were discussed and the so-called 'Option Three' has emerged as the preferred possibility for this area.

Proposed upgrade option for Bishop Lavis Town Centre

‘The preferred option connects the Bishop Lavis Town Centre to the Lavistown Station with a curved, pedestrian-friendly boulevard, reconfigures the sports fields, and provides additional facilities to the community. The study boundary of the project includes the Bishop Lavis Sports Field, the Civic Centre, the clinic and shopping nodes along Lavis Drive and the area between Lavis Station and Koppiesdam Road.

‘We are pleased to have been able to whittle down the vision for this area as a result of public engagement and it shows that we want to plan with our residents and not for them,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Energy, Environmental and Spatial Planning, Councillor Johan van der Merwe.

Public invited to comment at Open Day event

An open day will be held at the Civic Centre Hall on Lavis Drive, Bishop Lavis between 14:00 and 18:00 on 21 June 2016.
