| Repair work begins on Strand Street pedestrian bridge | Repair work begins on Strand Street pedestrian bridge | | <img alt="" src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/PublishingImages/City%20news.jpg" style="BORDER:0px solid;" /> | <p>The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate has commenced with repairs to the pedestrian bridge across Strand Street, between the Cape Town Station taxi deck and the Golden Arrow bus station in the CBD. The work is scheduled for completion on Monday, 31 August 2026 and it is currently being done between 06:00 and 19:00, Monday to Saturday.</p> | <span><p>‘The repairs to the Strand Street pedestrian bridge aim to restore the condition of the structural steel pedestrian bridge to a safe working state and will allow for safe pedestrian passage across Strand Street in the medium to long term. The pedestrian bridge will remain accessible to the public and in use throughout the repair works, just to a lower capacity, until repairs are completed. The repair work is needed to prolong the longevity of the City’s infrastructure and to keep Cape Town moving over roads as well,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.</p><p>The work areas under the bridge will be demarcated to regulate traffic flow through the affected area, with partial lane closures on:</p><ul><li>Strand Street<br></li><li>Newmarket Street <br></li><li>And Castle Street<br></li></ul>

Commuters should allow extra travel time to avoid delays.</p><figure class="subtopic-fullsize-img">
