Renew vehicle licences now ahead of June, July peak Renew vehicle licences now ahead of June, July peak
The City of Cape Town encourages motorists who are due to renew their vehicle licences in June and July 2021 to do so sooner rather than later, and preferably online via eServices. The City expects a peak in renewals, as many licences will expire between June and July 2021, due to the Covid-19 lockdown licensing extension given to motorists last year. Read more below:

The City thanks customers for their patience during this unprecedented time. We encourage residents to visit our offices in person only when necessary, and to do so very early in the day or to use our online options where possible. If applying online, remember to plan for the delivery of the licence, which could take about three to four weeks through the South African Post Office.

To avoid unnecessary delays due to the sheer volume of the expected licence disc renewals in the peak June to July 2021 period, the City recommends that customers renew their discs as soon as they can. We remind residents that fines cannot be written off by the City, as it is not a decision the City can make. This falls within the ambit of the National Department of Transport and the City follows the prescripts of the applicable regulations and legislation.

‘With the recent data indicating a Covid-19 third wave, we encourage customers to please make use of our online service offerings, where possible, and to factor in enough lead time of about three to four weeks from application to receiving the licence, based on the postal service delivery timeframes. We urge customers who are due to renew their discs during this peak period to do so as soon as they can, to avoid unnecessary delays and possible fines.

"We thank residents for their support and patience during this past year. During these abnormal times, the City continued to operate its customer offices as per our normal operating standards as far as possible,’ said the City’s Executive Deputy Mayor, Alderman Ian Neilson.

Tips

Customers are reminded that fines are nationally determined and the City may not unilaterally write off fines.

Please plan for a turnaround time of approximately three to four weeks currently from application to receipt of the licence when applying online via e-Services.

Please plan ahead. Check your licence disc renewal date.

The length of queues at motor licensing offices have reduced in general. However, it may still seem long due to the social distancing and other Covid-19 measures that are in place.

If customers must visit a customer office in person, please remember that there is Covid-19 screening at the entrances and a limited number of customers are allowed in at a time due to Covid-19 regulations. Social distancing is required and must be adhered to and masks are compulsory.

Motorists only need their ID for motor vehicle licensing and registration renewals.

To check customer office operating hours, please visit the Operations and Service Notifications document on the City’s website. The City communicates Covid-19 operational updates as fast as possible on CTAlerts on Twitter.

Motorists are reminded that they are not allowed to drive an unlicensed vehicle or a vehicle where a valid licence disc is not displayed.

Motorists are further reminded to update their cell phone numbers and email addresses when applying and paying for their licences online and at licensing offices as they will be receiving renewal reminders via their cell phones or email addresses.

Senior citizens, pregnant customers and customers with disabilities are urged to move to the front of the queue where they will be assisted as soon as possible.
Contacts

To register for e-Services visit: https://eservices.capetown.gov.za/irj/portal

For motor vehicle registration and licensing assistance: Vehicle.Licence@capetown.gov.za

For municipal and City rental payments:
• Online: www.Easypay.co.za or www.powertime.co.za
• EFTs: Select the City as a bank-listed beneficiary.
