Proposal to convert Van der Westhuizen Avenue into a one-way<p>​The Public Participation Process is scheduled to run over a 30-day period, with the commencement date set to be 1 September 2022 and the closing date for comments being 30 September 2022.<br></p><div>The City is mandated in terms of section 17 of the Local Government: Municipal Systems Act, Act 32 of 2000, to give the members of the public and interested parties or groups an opportunity to submit comments, recommendations or input about projects in their areas.</div><div><br></div><div>The purpose of the conversion is to enhance scholar safety and improve traffic circulation past Durbanville Preparatory School during peak school traffic hours.</div><div><br></div><div>The proposed signage upgrades include:</div><div><ul><li>Erection of signage on the left corner of Van der Westhuizen Avenue and Luckhoff Street. This would mean that on weekdays from 07:00 to 08:00 vehicles can turn right only</li><li>Erection of signage on the left and right-hand sides of the roadway at the corner of Hugo Street and Van der Westhuizen Avenue. This means one-way traffic on weekdays between 07:00-08:00</li><li>Trimming of trees along Van der Westhuizen Avenue to ensure the visibility of signage on the road.</li></ul></div><div><br></div><div>‘I encourage residents to ensure that they submit their comments and/or objections by 30 September 2022.
