New property owners as City hands over innovative Bardale, Fairdale Gap plots <div>‘The handover of the plots is pivotal to the City’s mission to enhancing housing delivery and fostering community growth. The City remains committed to providing residents, including the most vulnerable, with affordable housing opportunities. The sale of the plots will provide 219 housing opportunities. The project is situated in Bardale in Fairdale, Blue Downs and forms part of the Bardale, Fairdale gap housing plots sales programme.<br></div><div><br></div><div><span><figure class="subtopic-fullsize-img"><img src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Images%202/Nonceba%20Nyangiwe.jpg" class="responsive" alt="" style="width:1258px;" /> </figure></span>'The City, as is the case throughout South Africa, can no longer rely solely on the provision of State-subsidised Breaking New Ground (BNG) housing units. There is a place for this model of delivery, but not at the scale, pace and budget that is required. Different types of opportunities are required, whether it is social rental housing, plots or upgrading of informal settlements.<br></div><div><br></div><div><span> <figure class="subtopic-fullsize-img"> <img src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Images%202/20240411_CP_Bardale5.jpg" class="responsive" alt="" style="width:1040px;" /> </figure></span>'The City today handed over 55 residential plots to the successful applicants who are willing and able to build their own houses in Fairdale, Bardale as part of phase one and the second phase will hand over 164 serviced sites. These plots are purchased through the City Gap housing programme at a discounted price. These residents’ monthly income exceeds the threshold for BNG opportunities but is not necessarily enough to participate in the private property market. This project is one of the many such projects that are being released to Capetonians as part of the Mayoral Priority Programme on Land Release for affordable housing in line with the Integrated Development Plan’s (IDP) objective of increased supply of affordable, well-located homes. <br></div><div><br></div><div><span> <figure class="subtopic-fullsize-img"> <img src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Images%202/20240411_CP_Bardale3.jpg" class="responsive" alt="" style="width:911px;" /> </figure></span>'We encourage residents to visit their nearest housing office to find out more about the available opportunities, and how to apply. We remain dedicated to housing provision and we will continue to make every effort to deliver more opportunities that will empower many more residents across the city. The Bardale, Fairdale project is community-driven and has been successful in providing housing opportunities to beneficiaries in recent years. The City thanks its teams and contractor for their expertise and guidance. We have helped provide these opportunities to residents as we continue to Build Cape Town, together,' said Councillor Pophaim.<br></div><div><br></div><div>Residents are encouraged to register on the City’s Housing Needs Register and keep their contact details up to date so that they can be contacted when an opportunity becomes available. </div><div><br><strong>END</strong><br></div><p><br></p>2024-04-10T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#a4eccbe6-2bec-49aa-ad58-8ed41a372c82;L0|#0a4eccbe6-2bec-49aa-ad58-8ed41a372c82|housing;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#0d8b7293-a214-43fa-80da-d843dd6f8e82;L0|#00d8b7293-a214-43fa-80da-d843dd6f8e82|human settlements10
