This incident was among a raft of enforcement successes from the City of Cape Town’s Safety and Security Directorate this past week. <br></p> | <span><p>Members of the Metro Police K9 unit were traveling along the N2 at around 15:00 yesterday, when they spotted two men crossing the road, pursued by members of a vehicle tracking company.</p><p>Officers leapt into action, and apprehended the suspects. </p><p>The tracking company informed them that the men had hijacked a Toyota Quantum earlier in Eerste River.<br></p>

I'm very happy that the vehicle was recovered, and the driver unharmed, but I do want to caution the public to be alert and aware of their surroundings at all times, and to keep emergency numbers on speed dial,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.</p><p>In the past week, the City's enforcement agencies made 372 arrests and issued 69 116 fines for various transgressions.</p><ul><li>Metro Police officers made 61 arrests and issued 3 355 fines.</li><li>Law Enforcement officers made 268 arrests and issued 5 364 notices</li><li>Traffic officers recorded 60 397 offences, made 43 arrests including 26 for driving under the influence, four for reckless and negligent driving and 13 for various other offences. They also impounded 127 vehicles and executed 1 566 warrants of arrest<br></li></ul>

The centre also recorded 95 assault cases, 183 noise complaints, 29 domestic violence incidents and 55 road accidents. </p><p>'It was a fairly quiet weekend, statistics-wise. Many of the key categories were static or saw slight decreases weekend on weekend, but this is in line with trends.
