Metro Police officer lauded for 41 years’ service<p>​</p><span><p>Superintendent Arnold, a Kraaifontein resident, started his career with the City of Cape Town in 1979 at the age of 18 at the Roads Branch as a labourer, where his responsibilities were administrative.</p><p>Two years later, he took up the position of a correspondence clerk and, four months later,  was appointed as a plans filer and recorder at the same Roads Branch.<br> <br>He always admired the officers in blue on the beaches and joined the beach constabulary in September 1983. The constabulary had been established to combat anti-social behaviour on the beaches. </p> <figure class="subtopic-fullsize-img"> <img class="responsive" src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Centre/officer%20awards1.jpg" alt="" style="width:1069px;" /> </figure>​​</span><p>In 1998, he obtained his Matric Certificate and took up the designation as a Sergeant within Law Enforcement, continuing to carry out his duties on the City’s beaches.   <br> <br>In January 2002, after successfully completing the Traffic Officers Course, he completed the Supervisory Course and was appointed as a Precinct Commander in May 2002 within the City Police.</p><p>He became a Superintendent when the department became the City’s Metropolitan Police Department, a rank he still holds.</p><p>‘It’s always a proud moment to commemorate and honour our long-serving and dedicated men and women in uniform.
