Mayor Hill-Lewis delivers title deeds to Beacon Valley familiesMayor Hill-Lewis delivers title deeds to Beacon Valley families
Residents of Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain were overjoyed to receive their title deeds confirming their home ownership status today, 14 May 2024. Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis and Councillor Carl Pophaim, Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, were on hand to deliver the title deeds to beneficiaries right on their doorstep.

‘Delivering title deeds to Beacon Valley families right on their doorstep was a truly special moment. This is more than just a piece of paper – it is a life-changing document for future generations, representing both a home and an economic asset. The families who received their title deeds today represent just some of thousands of beneficiaries who will receive their title deeds over the coming months.

‘Creating new homeowners is our passion. We take pride in ensuring that families benefitting from state-subsidised housing get their title deeds in good time. We are also investing in more resources to help resolve historical title deed issues, and restore home ownership to the rightful beneficiaries.

‘Just last year, we further passed a new ‘No Cost Transfer’ policy to enable tenants of council rental housing to become homeowners without any costs burden,’ said Mayor Hill Lewis.

‘The City is working hard to drive the empowerment that comes with property ownership, and our title deeds programme is an effective tool for redress. Our No Cost Transfer policy, which was launched last year, also enables qualifying beneficiaries to take ownership of their own homes at no cost, and we have been making tremendous strides with this unique programme. This is what delivery is about and we will be making it our mission to create dignity in our communities through every single title deed that we deliver.

‘The City’s Human Settlements Directorate is gearing up to build on the success of our Festive Deeds challenge in 2023, where we delivered more than 1 000 title deeds to beneficiaries across the city in mere months. This time, we are aiming to deliver many, many more title deeds to beneficiaries across the city over the next few months.

‘We are thrilled to continue helping more residents become homeowners and I always enjoy celebrating with title deeds beneficiaries and their families. A home and title deed means opportunities and stability for the whole family and for many future generations,’ said Councillor Pophaim.

Contact us:

Have you received a government house but do not have a title deed that proves your ownership?

Call 021 444 0333 or visit your local housing office with your ID book.

Email us on: Title.Deeds@capetown.gov.za

The title deed request must include the following information:

Subject: Erf number and Area

Body of the email:

• Name and Surname: (The name in which the title deed is registered)

• ID number

• Address

End

2024-05-13T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#0d8b7293-a214-43fa-80da-d843dd6f8e82;L0|#00d8b7293-a214-43fa-80da-d843dd6f8e82|human settlements;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#d662b000-ebd9-4cff-8d9f-ae22c105ed6c;L0|#0d662b000-ebd9-4cff-8d9f-ae22c105ed6c|title deed;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#90b49a62-96e2-436a-9c68-187c9ab33534;L0|#090b49a62-96e2-436a-9c68-187c9ab33534|Mayor;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb10
