Local resident documenting Kraaifontein people and culture<span style="line-height:1.6;">At the subcouncil meeting that was held on Monday, 18 January 2016 a local Kraaifontein resident, Mrs Karen Carstens (pictured inset), presented her collection of stories that she had written up over a period of two years. The book incorporates some 267 stories from Kraaifontein residents and includes a historical survey of the area.</span><div><span style="line-height:1.6;"><br></span></div><div><span style="line-height:1.6;"></span><span style="line-height:1.6;">Included in the collection of stories is an account from the Subcouncil 7 chairperson, </span><span style="line-height:1.6;">Cllr Gerhard Fourie, who had the privilege of taking care of Nelson Mandela while he was a medical officer in the Correctional Services department.</span></div><div><span style="line-height:1.6;"><br></span></div><div><span style="line-height:1.6;">The book, titled “Kraaifontein Stories,” was launched on 5 December 2015 and Mrs Carstens is working on a second volume with a release date set for December 2016. She requests that residents please contact her if they have interesting stories to tell that relate to the Kraaifontein area.
