Kalksteenfontein enjoys fresh new roads

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate recently completed the rehabilitation of various roads in Kalksteenfontein. These roads were in urgent need of rehabilitation and upgrades, not only in the interest of the safety of all road users, but also to prolong the longevity of the road infrastructure. Kalksteenfontein is one of the high risk areas in which the City has managed to successfully complete a concrete roads rehabilitation project and construct new asphalt surfaces. 

The purpose of the project was to rehabilitate, upgrade and resurface existing roads with concrete bases in Kalksteenfontein. The contractor started in April 2023 and has recently completed most of the work with only a few small snags that will be attended to after the December holiday break. 

'This is a great achievement and an example of what the City can do for our communities when there is no gang or construction mafia interference in projects. The Kalksteenfontein community has now been uplifted with better infrastructure, unlike in other affected areas,'said the City of Cape Town's Mayoral Community Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

Residents in the Kalksteenfontein community are very pleased that their roads have been fixed and are particularly proud of the finishes of this project which includes the speed humps, road marking and road names on the kerbs. 

'I am happy that our team were able to deliver on these brand new roads before the end of the year and that the community can now feel a sense of pride about the aesthetics of their area.

'The implementation of this project was very challenging, however the contractor, civil engineering and various City departments worked together to successfully complete these roadworks in Kalksteenfontein. The spirits in the area are high and we look forward to similar projects, uplifting more communities of Cape Town,' said Councillor Quintas.
