This R170 million housing project in Dido Valley Simon’s Town will provide a total of 600 opportunities for the Redhill beneficiaries and Luyolo restitution beneficiaries from Gugulethu. <br></p> | <span><p>The City's Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Carl Pophaim, and officials in the Human Settlements Directorate celebrated with some of the very first Luyolo land claimants and their families. </p>

The City has built the 100 units for the Luyolo community and it is a privilege for us to bring about real change, and this flagship project is an example of our redress and restitution in action. Over recent months, we have handed over opportunities as they are completed, and we are looking forward to sharing many more special moments with beneficiaries as the project progresses.</p><p> </p><p>'Progress on site is on track and the project is expected to be completed in June 2026, if all goes according to plan. We thank all teams, the community and beneficiaries for their commitment to this project and we are looking forward to welcoming our future beneficiaries in the weeks to come,' said Councillor Pophaim. </p>

These beneficiaries were moved to Gugulethu. </p><p><strong>Redhill community – Breaking New Ground homes in terms of subsidy housing provision </strong></p><p>The majority of the beneficiaries for the Breaking New Ground component of the project come from the Redhill informal settlement, which is located between Simon's Town and Scarborough and their allocation is in line with housing allocation policies. </p>
