Help the City to maintain affordable rental units by paying your rental |
Over the last two years, the City’s Public Housing Department has spent more than R2 billion on repairs and maintenance at its affordable housing rental units across the metro. With the rental income received from tenants the City is able to effect repairs and maintenance to its affordable housing units. More than 39 000 tenants and their families live in the City’s Community Residential Units (CRU).

‘We encourage tenants to please make regular rental payments to the City or to enter into a payment arrangement with us, if they are struggling to do so. Help is available and the City provides assistance to those who qualify through the indigent support and rental housing relief on offer. Qualifying tenants may also benefit from the City’s R4,1 billion historic debt write off incentive.

‘Once an arrangement is entered into with the City, it is important for tenants to make sure their amount due is paid regularly and on time each month, to ensure that relief granted and the arrangement made is not cancelled. Tenants who have qualified for the once off debt write off and are not adhering to their current payment arrangements, will have their arrangement cancelled due to non-payment, and debt management actions will be taken against them.

‘We urge tenants to only visit a housing office if absolutely necessary and to consider using the available service request options and online payment options. We continue to ensure that all health and safety protocols are in place to ensure the safety of customers and City staff. It is important to remember to contact your housing office ahead of time to make an appointment. We thank our tenants for their support,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi.

For account and City-rental payments:

Online: www.Easypay.co.za or www.powertime.co.za

EFTs: Select the City as a bank-listed beneficiary.
