Matroosfontein Cottages has 32 self-catering rental units and provides safe, comfortable housing for residents over the age of 60.

|
'Our public housing campaign looks at safety and also big upgrades and maintenance. It sees the City investing more than R1,2 bn on maintenance and upgrades over the next three years. Our mission for this campaign is to enhance our Public Housing units in a safe and dignified manner. This is especially important for our senior citizens. It is heart-warming to see how much our tenants appreciated the maintenance work. By completing woodwork and electrical upgrades, we were able to really make a difference to our tenants' quality of life. We want everyone who lives in our units to feel comfortable and secure.

I also thank our senior citizens especially for their rental contributions and setting the example to others to pay their way as we use the income from rental to invest in maintenance and upkeep of our units,' said Councillor Pophaim.

The City manages 12 complexes, comprising 529 units, for older residents across the metro.

These are self-catering units and the tenants have to be able-bodied and not in need of frail care.

They can access a unit by applying via the City's Housing Needs Register.

Applicants are subject to the National and City eligibility criteria.

Visit this page for more information on our senior citizen complexes.
