Gatwick to Cape Town ‘as the crow flies’<p>The three additional flights from Gatwick Airport to Cape Town International Airport and back will bump up the number of seats available to 825 per week between the cities of London and Cape Town. It will also make British Airways (BA) the only airline to offer customers a choice of two airports in the United Kingdom. Currently BA is the only carrier to fly directly from London to the Mother City.  </p><span><div>‘I must commend our partner, Cape Town Air Access (a division of Wesgro), for brokering this deal with British Airways. I would also like to thank the airline for their positive response to this request. This much-needed additional capacity between the two cities will be welcomed by both leisure and business travellers,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Tourism, Events and Economic Development, Councillor Garreth Bloor.</div><div><br></div><div>The United Kingdom (UK) is the Western Cape’s second largest source market for foreign direct investment and our largest export market outside of Africa. More than 400 000 UK visitors travelled to the province in 2015. The existing Heathrow to Cape Town service has been operating at about 90% capacity in both directions.</div><div><br></div><div>‘The numbers speak for themselves and are testament that Cape Town and the rest of the province remain a firm favourite for business and leisure travellers. The availability of more flights and the tourism attractions, coupled with the favourable currency exchange rate, certainly puts the fair Cape high up on travellers’ lists of top places to visit, to work and to play,’ said Councillor Bloor.</div><div><br></div><div>The need for an additional service further demonstrates that the city’s exceptional beauty, world-renowned wine routes, and eclectic mix of culinary tastes that suit a range of palates continue to remain a firm favourite globally.  </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><strong>End</strong></div></span>2016-03-31T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#e72d3c36-1039-40f5-898a-7950dc0c4827;L0|#0e72d3c36-1039-40f5-898a-7950dc0c4827|Investment;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#dc848dde-3127-4363-8d22-65830e9c3f1e;L0|#0dc848dde-3127-4363-8d22-65830e9c3f1e|Tourism and events;GP0|#8817ff3b-0e95-4d62-ba15-c815ad425b94;L0|#08817ff3b-0e95-4d62-ba15-c815ad425b94|economic development1
