Elsies River Multipurpose Centre gets a revamp
The City of Cape Town’s Social Development Department recently upgraded the Elsies River Multipurpose Centre.

Previously known as the SHAWCO Health and Welfare Centre, the very popular and well-utilised Elsies River Multipurpose Centre has now received a well-deserved face-lift. The cork vinyl dance floor has been refurbished and the toilets, kitchen and foyer have been retiled at a cost R172 000.

‘I would like to encourage the community to take ownership of this facility and to take good care of it. This is a beautiful facility that benefits so many people and when you destroy a facility such as this it amounts to a child getting closer to drugs and gangsterism instead of that child spending time doing an extra-curricular activity,’ said the Chairperson of the City’s Parow Subcouncil, Councillor Chris Jordaan.

The multipurpose centre is utilised by senior groups and youth dance groups and hosts karate and gym classes as well as numerous community functions, to name but a few. All are welcome to make use of this facility.
2016-06-21T22:00:00ZGP0|#e3c03ac1-845c-4119-815d-e796340463ba;L0|#0e3c03ac1-845c-4119-815d-e796340463ba|Community news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#1596e104-b1e8-47f6-9db5-263896676e0a;L0|#01596e104-b1e8-47f6-9db5-263896676e0a|subcouncil;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#ca9ce429-5e55-408b-9cca-895ecb832f8b;L0|#0ca9ce429-5e55-408b-9cca-895ecb832f8b|facilities;GP0|#ea6e772e-a660-4b79-b771-502de7dccd3f;L0|#0ea6e772e-a660-4b79-b771-502de7dccd3f|sport and recreation1
