Customers reminded that August is peak month for licence renewals; use online services <p>​</p><p>The City of Cape Town reminds motorists who are due to renew their vehicle licence discs this month to do so sooner rather than later. If customers choose to visit an office, please remember to plan the trip ahead of time to avoid unnecessary delays. The City’s customer offices, including walk-in revenue and motor vehicle registration centres across the metro, are also subject to rapid closures due to Covid-19 regulations, when required. It is therefore important to phone ahead prior to visiting an office.</p><p>‘This month, customers who are renewing their motor vehicle licence discs via the City’s e-Services may experience high volumes and subsequent delays in processing. We also remind motorists that offices may have longer queues during this time, due to the high volumes of 2020 licence renewal extensions that are coming to an end. Motorists should always act proactively, check their licence discs on their vehicles and plan for a longer renewal turnaround time. Phone ahead of time to check whether a particular office is open as offices are subject to sudden closure due to the Covid-19 third wave that is in full swing. The City’s CTAlerts page on Twitter is updated regularly, so customers may check the page for operational updates.</p><p>‘When rapid Covid-19 office closures occur, the City is required by law to deep-clean the office before it is reopened to the public,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Finance and Executive Deputy Mayor, Alderman Ian Neilson.</p><p><strong>Tips </strong></p><ul><li><div style="text-align:left;">Please plan for a turnaround time of approximately four to six weeks currently from application to receipt of the licence when applying online via e-Services. </div></li><li><div style="text-align:left;">Customers are reminded that fines are nationally determined and the City may not unilaterally write off fines. The City does not have the power to grant extensions. This is nationally determined. </div></li><li><div style="text-align:left;">If customers must visit a customer office in person, please remember that there is Covid-19 screening at the entrances and a limited number of customers are allowed in at a time due to Covid-19 regulations. Social distancing is required and must be adhered to and masks are compulsory. </div></li><li><div style="text-align:left;">Motorists only need their ID for motor vehicle licensing renewals. </div></li><li><div style="text-align:left;">To check customer office operating hours, please visit the Operations and Service Notifications document on the City’s website.
