Infrastructure maintenance is done on a daily basis in all City supplied areas to ensure reliable and safe supply to residents and businesses.

This week, Mayoral Committee Member for Energy, Councillor Beverley van Reenen visited the Becott Street Substation in Wetton to have a closer look at the maintenance being completed.

'Our officials completed important maintenance to medium voltage infrastructure in the area. This particular substation supplies electricity to Wetton and the surrounding areas. City teams are on the ground on a daily basis to complete maintenance and upgrades to substations, infrastructure cables and electricity kiosks among others.

'The City continues to make significant capital investment in infrastructure and at the end of the fourth quarter, capital expenditure for growth and refurbishment had reached R532,6 million. The Electricity Generation and Distribution Departmental performance report also indicates that at 96,5%, the City's High Voltage Transformer availability has been consistently above target over the course of the last 12 months.

'Infrastructure vandalism however remains a challenge for the City and it often results in electricity outages. Our teams continue to monitor all hotspot areas and we urge residents to help us bring criminals to book by reporting illegal electricity connections to the City and South African Police Service (SAPS),' said Councillor van Reenen.

Please note:

It is standard practice to notify customers of planned maintenance ahead of work.
