City’s title deed mission gains ground with Nomzamo handover City’s title deed mission gains ground with Nomzamo handover
Residents of Nomzamo in Strand are the most recent beneficiaries of title deeds as part of the City’s Human Settlements Directorate’s ongoing title deed-to-door campaign. The handover ceremony was attended by the architect of the new campaign, Councillor Carl Pophaim, Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements.

'Our mission is to create more homeowners across various communities in Cape Town, providing residents with dignity and secure homeownership. We are delivering lasting change to our residents, one title deed at a time and, having appointed our title deed agents to locate beneficiaries that historically never claimed their deeds, is having a huge impact. We are now truly in the highest gear of delivery.

'We've appointed a service provider to solve the ongoing cases to make sure that as many people as possible have their deeds. We have a database of about 16 000 deeds that are owed to residents and I have challenged the City teams to find the beneficiaries. Together with our title deed agents, we are visiting beneficiaries at their homes to check and update their details. These important documents prove ownership and are important for financial transactions and estate planning. A title deed is so much more than a piece of paper and we want to get them to as many beneficiaries as possible.

'We are visiting areas across the metro as we find historic beneficiaries of City units who have not received title deeds. We are also calling on residents to contact us so we can deliver deeds directly to their door. The City plans to expand outreach efforts in various communities across the metro, ensuring that more families can achieve the dream of homeownership,' said Councillor Pophaim.

What you need to know

If you or a family member is a beneficiary of a City unit without a title deed, here's what you need to do:

Identify our easily recognisable title deed agents visiting your area.

Have the following documents ready:

Owner ID and spouse ID (if applicable).

Marriage certificate (if applicable).

In the event of a death, provide a Letter of Authority, Death Certificate, or Will.

If you missed the team, bring along the required documents and visit us at the Cape Town Civic Centre, 2nd Floor Human Settlements Kiosk on Monday to Friday between 09:00 – 12:00..

For more information or if you want to verify that the agents are legitimate, contact 021 444 0333 or email title.deeds@capetown.gov.za or visit your local housing office.

The title deed email request must include the following information:

Subject: Erf number and Area

Body of the email:

• Name and Surname: (The name in which the title deed is registered)

• ID number

• Address

Contact the Human Settlements Call Centre on 021 444 0333

Monday to Friday between 07:30 and 16:30

End

2024-08-07T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#831594ce-baa4-46bb-a06a-29bd91a56fd8;L0|#0831594ce-baa4-46bb-a06a-29bd91a56fd8|Nomzamo;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#d662b000-ebd9-4cff-8d9f-ae22c105ed6c;L0|#0d662b000-ebd9-4cff-8d9f-ae22c105ed6c|title deed;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#0d8b7293-a214-43fa-80da-d843dd6f8e82;L0|#00d8b7293-a214-43fa-80da-d843dd6f8e82|human settlements;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb10
