City to upgrade Nolungile public transport facility |

The Nolungile public transport interchange (PTI) is located along Solomon Tshuku Drive and Njongo Avenue in Site C in Khayelitsha. The PTI is a beehive of activity with about 90 minibus-taxis operating from there, serving approximately 15 000 commuters on weekdays.

'The current facility is in desperate need of an upgrade. The improvements we propose will make the facility more efficient for minibus-taxi operators. As for commuters, we intend to provide a roof covering the boarding and waiting areas to protect users from harsh weather, lighting for safety after dark, universally accessible walkways, and ablution facilities.

'The concept design for this upgrade is now available for comment and I urge commuters and operators from Nolungile to please attend the information day where officials will answer their questions. This facility is intended to serve the local community, and this public participation process is an important opportunity to contribute and influence the final design,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The City is inviting the public to an information day about the draft concept plan for this project.
