The following companies will also participate in the exercise: Glaxo Smith Kline, Fine Chemicals, Afrox, Epping Market and Pioneer Foods.<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre;"> </span></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre;"> </span></div><div>The scenario will run from 10:00 – 14:00 and will involve a truck that’s tanker is leaking, resulting in an explosion. The simulation will take place on Gunners Circle, with the truck entering Afrox on the corner of Gunners Circle and Jellicoe Avenue. <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre;"> </span></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre;"> </span></div><div>Depending of the wind direction, the exercise will affect other role players who will have to either shelter or evacuate their staff. This will also have an effect on Thornton residents, the Cape Town Market, the informal fruit and veg market, the Langa Station and the Langa Informal market, etc. Wind direction will play a part, moving the ‘gas leakage’ towards the residential area.<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre;"> </span></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre;"> </span></div><div>A number of roads will be closed for the duration of the exercise, as outlined below. Residents and businesses are advised to please take note of these closures:<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre;"> </span></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre;"> </span></div><div><strong>Staging area (south-easterly wind):</strong><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre;"> </span></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre;"> </span></div><div><ul><li>Between Gunners Circle and the railway line<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre;"> </span><br></li><li>Grenville and Jellicoe Avenue<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre;"> </span><br></li><li>Jan Smuts Drive <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre;"> </span><br></li></ul></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre;"> </span></div><div><strong>Staging area (north-westerly wind):</strong><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre;"> </span></div><div><ul><li>Moody Avenue in front of Impressions<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre;"> </span><br></li><li>Epping Market side<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre;"> </span><br></li><li>Simulated road closure on the N7 <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre;"> </span><br></li></ul></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre;"> </span></div><div>The City of Cape Town apologises for any inconvenience caused and appeals to the public to please comply with any requests from emergency services staff on the day.
