The exhibition will demonstrate the strides made over the past five decades to transition to an electronic based system geared to meet the demands of the digital age.

|
‘Those of us who were around in the 1970s may remember the first time we saw the grainy images on a television screen and how these expanded our horizons to a world beyond our immediate surroundings. Since then, technological advances have been happening at the speed of light, from the birth of the modern desktop and laptop, to the arrival of the world wide web, digital cameras, cellphones, the Cloud and Artificial Intelligence.

‘As individuals we have to adapt all the time to keep up with a world that is constantly changing and becoming more digital and electronic. The same applies to government, and the City of Cape Town. We know there will be more rapid advances in this space in coming years and that these will continuously test our resilience and adaptability. The exhibition will showcase the City’s agility and efforts to adjust our processes and way of doing business over the past 50 years.

‘I invite residents, professionals, and learners to join us at the Civic and to come see the transitions that enable the City to function and excel in an ever changing digital environment. On display will be our milestones in the development management space, such as the amalgamation of 27 zoning schemes into one Development Management Scheme that regulates zoning and land use in Cape Town; the implementation of the Development Application Management System to facilitate the online submission of development and building plan applications to the City; the adoption of and continuous amendments to a Municipal Planning By-law that responds to the needs of a rapidly growing city; and many others,’ said the City’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Alderman Eddie Andrews.

The Paper-to-Pixel exhibition is hosted as follows:
