City operations under way to remove southern right whale carcass
The City of Cape Town is currently in the process of removing a southern right whale carcass that has washed up approximately 3 km south of the Milnerton Lagoon. The carcass will be taken to the landfill site at Vissershok.

The public is advised to please exercise caution and to avoid this area due to a potential increase in shark activity.

The operation is expected to be completed by late afternoon, however, the associated scents can linger after the carcass has been removed. As such, increased shark activity should be expected for a few days.

‘While such occurrences tend to draw curious onlookers, from a safety perspective we urge members of the public to please keep away to allow the officials on site to do what needs to be done,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Area North, Councillor Suzette Little.

End
2017-04-02T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#85b6d743-39c9-4d3f-9ba5-059f82e00506;L0|#085b6d743-39c9-4d3f-9ba5-059f82e00506|Milnerton;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#bd01eb1e-7d40-47f8-913c-811c687e6ce1;L0|#0bd01eb1e-7d40-47f8-913c-811c687e6ce1|Beaches1
