roads lead south this weekend for two days of the Totalsports Two Oceans
Marathon. The City of Cape Town’s services are geared up to provide
support to the world's most beautiful marathon. </span><br></p> | <p>A field of approximately 14 000 runners is expected to take to the start line of the Ultra Marathon on Saturday, 13 April 2024 while 18 000 athletes will be taking on the Half Marathon on Sunday, 14 April 2024. </p><span><p></p>

<img src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Images%202/A%20Two%20Oceans%20marathon.jpg" class="responsive" alt="" style="width:949px;" /> </figure></span>The 56km will follow a route worthy of the title 'world's most beautiful marathon', taking runners from Newlands to scenic glory in Muizenberg, St. James, Kalk Bay, the famed Chapman's Peak and Constantia, before finishing under the shadow of Table Mountain at UCT.<div><br><p>The 21,1km runners will also start in Newlands, traversing a route that will take them through Claremont, Kenilworth, Wynberg and Constantia before finishing off at UCT's rugby field. <br></p><p>The City of Cape Town is providing logistical support in the form of safety and security personnel to the event. </p><p> This includes the deployment of Traffic Services, Metro Police, Law Enforcement, Disaster Risk Management as well as Fire and Rescue Services.<br></p><p>'Through a collaboration between the City of Cape Town's Events Coordination Committee, the Two Ocean Marathon organiser and other roleplayers, a lot of work is done behind the scenes in implementing measures to ensure that participants enjoy a smooth event experience. Cape Town has become a runner's paradise and we're proud to be a preferred destination for road running. We pride ourselves on hosting world-class events where participants enjoy a seamless experience. Our enforcement and emergency services personnel will be deployed along the race route to ensure the safety of runners, spectators and the general public,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith. <br></p><p><strong>Road closures </strong></p><p>As a result of the two races, a number of roads on the routes will be impacted on Saturday and Sunday.<br></p><p>For the Ultra Marathon on Saturday, temporary road closures will be in place for Newlands, Claremont, Kenilworth, Muizenberg, St. James, Kalk Bay, Chapman's Peak and Constantia, among others. <br></p><p>Comprehensive road closures and detours for the Ultra Marathon are available <a href="https://www.twooceansmarathon.org.za/event_race_day/road-closures/">here</a>. <br></p><p>The Half Marathon will impact roads in Rondebosch, Claremont, Kenilworth, Wynberg and Constantia. <br></p><p>A list of the half marathon road closures and detours is available <a href="https://www.twooceansmarathon.org.za/event_race_day/half-marathon_road_closures/">here</a>. <br></p><p>The MyCiTi bus service in Hout Bay will be impacted by the road closures in Hout Bay on Saturday, 13 April:</p><ul><li>Route 109 will be diverted via Victoria Avenue and Princess Street</li><li>Route 118 will turn around after the Valley Stop <br><br><br>The following stops will be affected during the road closure period:<br><br><br>Route 109, southbound direction only (towards Hout Bay):</li></ul><ul><li>Valley </li><li>Imizamo Yethu </li><li>Berg-en-dal </li><li>Scott </li><li>Mainstream<br><br></li></ul><p>Route 118<strong>, </strong>both directions:</p><ul><li>Imizamo Yethu <br></li></ul><p><strong>Municipal facilities </strong></p><p>The City's Urban Waste Management (UWM) Directorate advises the following drop-off facilities will be closed on Saturday, 13 April 2024, due to the marathon:<br></p><ul><li>Simon's Town </li><li>Kommetjie </li><li>Hout Bay<br><br></li></ul><p>Residents can use Sea Point (recyclables only), Coastal Park, Wynberg and Retreat drop-offs as alternatives.
