| City hosts open days on new spatial vision for Philippi Opportunity Area | <p>‘The City has done extensive research and planning on developing the proposed spatial vision for the Philippi Opportunity Area. The draft LSDF for the POA proposes interventions; projects related to roads, infrastructure and placemaking; and investments to support the implementation of the spatial vision. </p><p>‘All who live and work in Philippi have an interest in developing this vision and are encouraged to participate in this process by commenting on the draft LSDF. We are hosting open days where residents can ask burning questions about how this framework will stimulate economic activity and improve their lives in the long run. I encourage residents to attend these days and to let us know their thoughts,’ said the City’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Alderman Eddie Andrews.</p><p>The details of the open days are as follows:</p><p style="text-align:left;">• Date: Saturday, 21 May 2022</p><p style="text-align:left;">Venue: Philippi East Library, corner of Phumlani and Ngqabe Roads</p><p style="text-align:left;">Time: from 09:00 to 12:00</p><p style="text-align:left;">• Date: Tuesday, 24 May 2022</p><p style="text-align:left;">Venue: Philippi East Library, corner of Phumlani and Ngqabe Roads</p><p style="text-align:left;">Time: from 09:00 to 15:00</p><p>The POA is located in the metro-south east, in close proximity to the Philippi Horticultural Area, the Cape Town International Airport, and the key access routes of the N2 and R300. Its strategic location is pivotal to the POA’s regeneration into an inclusive, thriving, sustainable, and resilient area. The draft LSDF confirms the area’s potential to catalyse the development and transformation of the metro-south east.</p><p>Economic development can be ignited by improving the road links with the PHA, the airport, and existing industrial activities, but also upgrading spaces and facilities to better organise the informal economy for growth.
