This is so the contractor appointed by the City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate can do emergency repairs to the collapsed sewer in this vicinity.<br></p> | <p>Emergency repairs to the collapsed sewer on Bamboesvlei Road in Ottery will start soon.<br></p><p>Repairing sewer collapses are often complex in nature because various factors need to be taken into account so that work can be done. This includes the depth of the sewer pipe below ground and other underground services. <br></p><p>As soon as the contractor is on site, the area around the pipe will be excavated so that further investigation can take place. This will include assessing the extent of the collapse, possible cause(s) and the action plan to fix it. <br></p><p>'We want to assure residents and motorists that every effort will be made to do this emergency repair in the shortest, safest time possible.<br></p><p>'At this stage, the City is unable to determine how long repairs will take, but this work will also be weather dependent. <br></p><p>'In the meantime, as an interim precautionary measure, over-pumping is taking place to manage the flow of sewage to reduce the chances of overflows in the area. The City regrets the inconvenience and appreciates residents' cooperation,' said Councillor Zahid Badroodien, the Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation. <br></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Residents are also reminded they can help the City reduce sewer blockages.
