| City commences with resurfacing of roads in Newfields | City commences with resurfacing of roads in Newfields | | <img alt="" src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/PublishingImages/City%20news.jpg" style="BORDER:0px solid;" /> | <p>The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate hereby advises residents, road users and businesses of the resurfacing of roads in Newfields in the Athlone area. The roadworks will commence today, 19 February 2024, and it is anticipated to be completed by Tuesday, 12 March 2024, provided there are no unforeseen delays. <br></p> | <span>
<div>The work will be done on weekdays from 08:00 until 15:30 with no work planned at night or during weekends. There will be provisions to ease traffic congestion during the hours of construction. Where possible, traffic will be detoured around the site. </div>

<div>The work will include the resurfacing of road pavements and the repainting of road markings. </div>
<div>The affected roads are: </div>
<div>• Athwood Road </div>
<div>• Lodewyk Road between Surran Road and 90 Lodewyk Road</div>
<div>• Dirk Adams Road</div>
<div>• Algoa Road</div>
<div>• Alleman Road</div>
<div>• Gideon Road between Dirk Adams Road and Athwood Road</div>
<div>Road users are requested to use alternative routes during this period. Residents can expect a level of noise pollution during this time.</div>

<p>'Much as we do not like the inconvenience of roadworks, we all actually love the feeling of driving on newly resurfaced roads. I wish to thank the road users for their patience while work is under way. The benefit of newly resurfaced roads include improved road safety conditions, better drive quality as well as decreased vehicle user costs,' said Councillor Rob Quintas, the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility.</p>
