City awards financial support bursaries to promising young leaders | City awards financial support bursaries to promising young leaders | | <img alt="" src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/PublishingImages/Former%20Mayors%20Header.jpg" style="BORDER:0px solid;" /> | <p><strong><em><span style="font-size:12pt;font-family:"century gothic", sans-serif;">On 30 November 2022, the City’s Corporate Services Directorate held a
ceremony in which 50 new awardees were granted bursaries for pursuing their
studies. </span></em></strong><br></p> | <p></p><p>The City's external financial support awards are intended to provide support to promising young members of the community who have demonstrated potential to take their studies further. This year, over 900 applicants competed for the bursaries via a competitive process that took into account financial need, academic results, interview performance as well as the City's staffing strategies. </p><p> </p><p>A total of 50 awards were granted to deserving candidates, of which 17 were in the fields of civil and electrical engineering. The programme aims to fill the scarce skills gap by supporting study in these essential fields. </p><p> </p><p>'Our vision is to be a City of Hope for all, where we can create more opportunities for the young leaders of tomorrow. To foster economic growth, we need to see more young people lift themselves out of poverty through educational opportunities, and the City of Cape Town is proud to be able to lend a hand in supporting our awardees to achieve their study and career goals, and thereby help to uplift their communities.
