As mentioned recently, in the last financial year, Law Enforcement and Metro Police officers recovered 206 firearms, 239 imitation or replica firearms, and 2 260 rounds of ammunition. That these confiscations are becoming such a regular occurrence is bittersweet. On the one hand it speaks to the hard work and dedication of our staff in the face of danger, but on the other it continues to raise so many questions about supply lines. Where are all of these firearms coming from and what are we doing, as a country, to get a grip on gun violence?,' said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.

Traffic Services

Officers arrested 84 suspects – 64 for driving under the influence of alcohol and 20 for reckless and negligent driving.

They also recorded 64 093 traffic offences, impounded 137 public transport vehicles and executed 1 621 warrants of arrest.

Public Emergency Communication Centre

The PECC recorded 1 923 incidents over the past weekend.

Requests for medical assistance accounted for 43% of all calls, while by-law complaints accounted for 22% of incidents logged.

A total of 147 assaults were recorded, along with 21 domestic violence incidents, 53 motor vehicle accidents and 10 accidents involving pedestrians.

End

2022-10-16T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#4bcb251f-1166-4a1c-8ee5-d33721046dec;L0|#04bcb251f-1166-4a1c-8ee5-d33721046dec|law enforcement;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#1590d31e-7ad8-4e2e-9ac0-344400d98f63;L0|#01590d31e-7ad8-4e2e-9ac0-344400d98f63|traffic services;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#633591e2-ed41-4816-9750-3d5f5090deda;L0|#0633591e2-ed41-4816-9750-3d5f5090deda|illegal activity;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb10
