City advises of water supply disruption in a section of ConstantiaCity advises of water supply disruption in a section of Constantia
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will be commencing with construction work on the water supply to a section of the Constantia area starting on Monday 12 September 2022 until 19 January 2023. This forms part of the City’s pipe replacement and infrastructure upgrade programme for this area. It will result in the intermittent disruption of the water supply in Summit Way, Muscat Way and Klein Constantia Road from Croft Road to Pagasvlei Road.

The City will be replacing sections of the water reticulation network in various roads in Constantia. These areas have been identified as experiencing high incidents of water leaks and pipe bursts. For this purpose, it has awarded the project for civil works to be done in these areas to a contractor. The contractor will be moving onsite on Monday 12 September 2022 to commence with the projects which will be completed by 19 January 2023.

'The water mains upgrade forms part of the City's pipe replacement and infrastructure programme of its drinking water reticulation network for which an annual budgetary allocation has been provided. The implementation of a water main upgrade is determined by a specified set of criteria that is identified upfront as the water reticulation network is monitored for occurrences such as pipe bursts caused by material fatigue, excessive pressure, ageing infrastructure, etc. This Directorate has consistently replaced sections of the water reticulation infrastructure in need of replacement and upgrade across the city,' said Councillor Zahid Badroodien, Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation.

The work involves replacing the water reticulation pipe using open trench methods. Water will only be shut during final connections which will be communicated in advance to the public on scheduled days. Careful consideration has been given to the planning of this work to ensure minimal disruption to the water supply in the affected areas.

The occupants of the premises along the installation routes will be informed of the progress of the project in their area, especially when it comes to the point where it directly impacts on their premises. The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused during the water main upgrades, but it is imperative that it maintains its infrastructure to the benefit of its residents.

Property owners, pedestrians and traffic flow will be accommodated at all times during construction and throughout the project. Traffic Services will be involved with the diversion of traffic and all road closures when required.

End

2022-09-07T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#dd9b5445-92f0-4a44-9ca3-647380446295;L0|#0dd9b5445-92f0-4a44-9ca3-647380446295|Water disruption;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GPP|#8f4fc986-7316-49fe-aa93-6ae4c15611bf;GPP|#eea2ec5e-e535-4764-9094-bb6325d8d145;GP0|#1ab10980-31e8-49df-b1f6-9680e4a22fbd;L0|#01ab10980-31e8-49df-b1f6-9680e4a22fbd|constantia;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb10
