City accepts late transfer of National Human Settlements funding, denies ANC claims
This is not the first time national government has unexpectedly dumped, welcomed but unsolicited grant funding to the City on the eve of the national financial year-end to avoid its own under-spending.

The City appreciates the confidence shown in its ability to spend housing grant funding. This is because Cape Town has ensured grant-funding was spent on the intended purpose of housing and informal settlement upgrades, with 99% of the USDG spent or contractually committed over the last three financial years since 2020/21. In 2022/23, the City also spent 100% of its grant-funding under the ISUPG, a new grant aimed at upgrading informal settlements.

It is with this aim that the City has accepted the latest funding too and immediately submitted plans to national government for its expenditure on various of the City's ongoing informal settlement projects. The funding will, therefore, be used for those who are most vulnerable and we will proceed with the urgent spending of these additional funds, following due process which includes the approval of these additional sums in the City's Adjustments Budget at the forthcoming Council meeting during April 2024.

The ANC's claims of these funds being returned are therefore completely false.

End

2024-04-04T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#0d8b7293-a214-43fa-80da-d843dd6f8e82;L0|#00d8b7293-a214-43fa-80da-d843dd6f8e82|human settlements;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#a61d1094-2d2f-48c6-934c-094c65faf9cf;L0|#0a61d1094-2d2f-48c6-934c-094c65faf9cf|funding10
