City Netball Legacy Series starts with centre pass<span><p>The tournament begins with sub-district competitions on Saturday, 25 May 2024 and culminates in the finals on Women's Day 9 August 2024, at Stephen Reagan Sport Complex, Mitchells Plain.</p><p>This tournament series is a testament to the sustainability of sport and recreation programmes in communities, with netball teams from various areas raising their levels of play as they compete for the winner's trophy.<br></p> <figure class="subtopic-fullsize-img"> <img src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Images%202/DSC_2686.jpg" class="responsive" alt="" style="width:951px;" /> </figure>​​</span><span><p>'The Netball World Cup last year proved how popular this growing sport is among our young people, and not only women. The benefits of netball are abundant and we want to continue building on the success of the sport,' said Councillor Patricia Van der Ross, the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health.</p><p>The U19 local netball tournament series provides an avenue for youth to showcase their abilities and compete against other local teams. </p><p>It is an important part of the City and Cape Town Netball Federation's mission of promoting netball and creating opportunities for youth to participate in the sport.<br></p> <figure class="subtopic-fullsize-img"> <img src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Images%202/DSC_3516.jpg" class="responsive" alt="" style="width:949px;" /> </figure>​​</span><span><p>This initiative also encourages participants to be team-oriented, develop leadership skills, gain confidence in their abilities, learn netball fundamentals and most importantly, have fun.</p><p>'I encourage the public to support teams in their local communities or to inquire about joining an accredited netball club. This tournament, made possible through our partnership with the Cape Town Netball Federation, is a testament to our commitment to promoting sport and recreation programmes that benefit our youth,' added Councillor Van der Ross.</p><p><strong>Tournament details for Saturday 25 May 2024.
