The cyclists have spent the better part of the year preparing to take on this challenge and having as many people cheering them on from the sidelines as they make their way across the Peninsula would serve as great motivation for them. As the City, we will be there to see the cyclists off and we hope Cape Town's residents will also line up the roads to give them the extra boost for the long ride ahead,' said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.

Logistics and road closures

In addition to the traditional 109km route circling the Cape Peninsula, the Cycle Tour will run the shorter 42km route, introduced in 2023, for a second year.

As a result, a number of temporary road closures will be implemented on both routes on Saturday, 9 March and Sunday, 10 March 2024.

Residents and motorists are reminded that a number of roads in and around the city bowl, around the DHL Stadium and Southern Suburbs will be affected.

Helen Suzman Boulevard from Beach Road to Traffic Circle will be closed from 14:00 on Saturday until 21:00 on Sunday.

Chapman's Peak will be closed from 18:00 on Saturday until 18:00 on Sunday.

Nelson Mandela Boulevard incoming from Strand Street will be closed from 19:00 on Saturday until 16:00 on Sunday.

M3 inbound, Hospital Bend Interchange and Nelson Mandela Boulevard will be closed on Sunday from 10:00 – 15:00

Victoria Rd along Camps Bay, North and South bound will be closed from 07:00 until 18:00 on Sunday.

M4 Main Rd through Tokai, Lakeside, False Bay to Cape Point and Scarborough will be closed on Sunday between 05:45 until 14:00.

A comprehensive list of all road closures is available here.

Several MyCiTi service routes will be impacted by the road closures on Saturday and Sunday.

For more information on impacted stops and deviations, visit the MyCiTi website.

Alternative route information for residents who are travelling from Fish Hoek, Glencairn, Hout Bay, Sea Point, Simon's Town, Kalk Bay, Lakeside and the CBD is available here.

End

2024-03-05T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#34f4df81-9990-40ab-8213-8383ea5bee8b;L0|#034f4df81-9990-40ab-8213-8383ea5bee8b|event;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#8b537570-ec64-4d35-bfda-4a5a82587b65;L0|#08b537570-ec64-4d35-bfda-4a5a82587b65|sport;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#550cea01-5fec-45fb-8509-f49cfc36c0e0;L0|#0550cea01-5fec-45fb-8509-f49cfc36c0e0|Safety;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb10
