CDWP helps promote learning through play with donation to Khayelitsha ECD

<p>The Community Development Workers Programme (CDWP), a collaboration between the City’s Urban Waste Management Directorate and the Western Cape Government’s Department of Local Government, has facilitated a donation of educational toys, sports equipment, and a recycling bin to the Injabulo Educare Centre in Khayelitsha.<br></p>

<p></p><span><p>The CDWP aims to build a bridge between government and communities to help the communities access support. It helps communities exercise their voice so they can be heard by the relevant authorities.</p> <figure class="subtopic-fullsize-img"> <img src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Images%202/CDWP%20Khayelitsha%201.jpg" class="responsive" alt="" style="width:948px;" /> </figure></span><span><p>One of the recent interventions by the programme is the donation of toys and sports equipment to the Injabulo Educare Centre in Khayelitsha, as well as assisting the centre with registration on the Western Cape Government Department of Social Development ECD database. ECDs on this database are subject to regular assessment and quality control, giving parents the confidence that their children will be well taken care of. </p> <figure class="subtopic-fullsize-img"> <img src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Images%202/CDWP%20Khayelitsha%202.jpg" class="responsive" alt="" style="width:948px;" /> </figure></span><span><p>The donation also included a recycling bin, and the principal was provided with contact details of buy-back centres that could purchase recyclable waste from the facility, providing an extra source of funding. </p> <figure class="subtopic-fullsize-img"> <img src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Images%202/CDWP%20Khayelitsha%203.jpg" class="responsive" alt="" style="width:948px;" /> </figure></span><div>‘Early childhood, before primary school, is a crucial period for children’s development, but so many of our children are not properly stimulated at this age. The toys and equipment that are being donated will help the staff at Injabulo Educare prepare the children for life and future schooling with fun and exciting games and play,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management, Alderman Grant Twigg. </div><div><br></div><div>‘I encourage other unregistered ECD centres to make contact with their Community Development Worker via their local subcouncil to see what assistance could be provided,’ said Alderman Twigg. </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><strong>End</strong><br></div><p><br></p>
