Bellville Library to reopen

The City of Cape Town’s Bellville Library will reopen on Tuesday, 1 June 2021 after a forced closure at the beginning of the year.
‘Bellville Library had to close in January after the circulation system, which regulates air flow and oxygen into the library, broke down completely. The library is one of our flagship facilities with more than 11 000 patrons and they’ll be happy to know it is once again open for book business,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Zahid Badroodien.
The lockdown levels led to delays in the repair process, but it has been completed with enough ventilation throughout the library.
During the closure, staff were relocated to other libraries with only a very small component of staff remaining on the premises for basic operational matters.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a limited number of patrons will be allowed inside the library for browsing. SmartCape and the reference sections will also be available.
The opening hours for June 2021 are:
‘Bellville is one of our top circulating libraries with more than 389 955 different items accessed by patrons annually. The library has become a landmark and a space which facilitates cultural and artistic activities and we want to thank our patrons for their patience. We are looking forward to opening our doors to patrons, library members and supporters and to be of continued service again to our community,’ added Councillor Badroodien.
