Asanda Village residents urged to work with the City following pipe burst
Scheduled emergency maintenance on the pipeline supplying the Strand area took place on 4 May 2016. However, the pipe burst twice at different locations after separate attempts were made to restore water to the line. The City received notice at 01:00 on Friday 6 May 2016 about the particular burst in Nomzamo. It must be noted that the replacement pipes had not been used previously.

The pressurisation of the pipes when restoring them to the network can expose weaknesses that had been otherwise undetectable. Since the initial bursts, the repair teams have been conducting investigations to restore the water supply.

Supply to Nomzamo and the Helderberg Industrial Area was partially restored to a low-pressure level on Sunday 8 May 2016.

Efforts to do the same for Asanda Village and the Asla Business Park are being hindered by the protest action.
